"Another Half" by Cautious Clay, Julian Lage I've been mean to get around to listening to Cautious Clay's new album but kept forgetting until my cousin sent me a text reminding me that it existed. I'm so glad he did (thanks cuz) because where as I would have described Cautious Clay's past music as, let's say, Indie Pop, this album definitely has him leaning a lot more into jazz influences and even going as far as enlisting some of the best New York Jazz musicians of his generation. Julian Lage, featured on this track, is definitely one of those people. I remember when I was in school for Jazz 10 years ago, Julian, who's only a few years older than me, was already being described as a prodigy that wasn't only the greatest Jazz guitarist of my generation, but potentially one of the greatest of all time. All that being said, this song and this album is a cool adventure for Cautious Clay, taking his production and songwriting skills for indie bedroom synth pop and adding a new ingredient of Jazz. I'm assuming that living in New York, he was rubbing shoulders with some great Jazz guys and decided he would make an album centered around it. I also didn't know Cautious Clay was a woodwind player like me.
