Which tone is your favorite? Today we’re checking out the brand new Knife Drop, a collaboration between Eventide and Jack White. The Knife drop combines an aggressive distortion, a monophonic synth, filter & octave pitch shifting into one box that can deliver a ton of massive tones. I had a blast putting this track together and found the tones incredibly inspiring. The Knife Drop design and packaging is an ode to 70’s/80’s Cult Horror movie, and includes a convincing backstory about it’s inspiration coming from a fictional movie soundtrack (which seemed so real I even tried to look for it online 😂). The Knife Drop control layout is fairly simple. Three knobs whose primary controls are Synth Mix, this lets you blend between your guitar signal and the synth. The Drive knob controls how much distortion is added to the circuit, and the Level control is for the overall output. By holding the alt button, you can access the secondary controls which are for the Envelope Filter. You can control the Attack, Resonance, & Cutoff. This filter affects both your guitar signal and the synth signal. The LED buttons above the footswitches allow you to place the filter before or after the distortion, and select between Octave Up and Octave Up & Down. There are footswitches to bypass the pedal, and a dedicated switch for the octave effect. There are stereo outputs to split your signal, an aux/midi/exp input for external control. The Knife Drop also allows you access to a single preset on the pedal, with many more available by using an AUX switch or MIDI. It will also connect to the H90 Control app for easy preset management.
