Which sound is your favorite? Tag someone who loves Chorus. For today’s Three Sounds reel we’re taking a look at the Waterfall from Jam Pedals. The Waterfall is a BBD based analog chorus/vibrato that can be used to dial in thick lush chorus sounds, pseudo-Leslie style tones, as well as a killer pitch vibrato. The controls on the Waterfall are straightforward and it’s easy to dial in great tones. Depth and Speed control the intensity and rate of the chorus. The +/- toggle increases the intensity of the depth control and there’s a toggle for chorus/vibrato which kills the dry signal resulting in a wonderful sounding vibrato. Which Sound is your Favorite? For today’s Three Sounds reel we are taking a look at the Dude Incredible from EAE. Inspired by the tones of Steve Albini, the Dude Incredible combines a stripped down version of the Intersound IVP “tube voiced” preamp and a Harmonic Percolator fuzz. These can be used independently or stacked together to create a massive range of drive and fuzz textures. The left side is the IVP, it features Level/Gain/Treble/Bass controls and a Hi/Lo gain switch. The EQ is a baxandall style and can boost or cut. The EQ is also placed before the drive circuit so they have a very unique impact on the tone shaping. The right side is the Harmonic Percolator circuit, built around a silicon/germanium transistor pairing. It features a harmonic knob, that controls the amount of gain at the input stage, and a balance control that sets the output of the fuzz. It also has a diode toggle that changes the clipping section of the circuit and introduce more compression. Thank you EAE for sending this to be a part of the series. Which sound is your favorite? For today’s Three Sounds reel I’m happy to be a part of the launch of the newest creation from Walrus, the Melee. Inspired by classic Shoegaze sound, The Melee pedal partners up a massive sounding distortion with an even bigger sounding reverb. The large joystick is your main control, Left/Right controls the Reverb Mix, and Up/Down controls the amount of Gain. It’s incredibly easy to manipulate on the fly with your feet (I mean, you’ll be staring at your shoes anyway right?). In addition to the joystick you have a volume control, a three way tone switch, that gives you different eq settings for the distortion. A decay toggle for the reverb (short/medium/long) and an order switch so you can decide which effect is first in the signal chain. There’s also a secondary footswitch that can be held for infinite sustain. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s actually three reverb programs on board that can be cycled through by pressing both footswitches. The Pink Led is is the core Ambient Reverb. the Yellow LED is an octave down reverb (think dark mode on the SLÖ), and the blue led is a reverse reverb that is so much fun to play. I know it’s early in the year, but this is very likely a contender for the most fun pedal of 2023. I had a blast putting together this track. Thank you Walrus for including me in your launch. Do you record guitars at home? Today we’re listening to a classic microphone pairing, one you’ve very likely heard on plenty of albums made in the last 25 years, the Royer R-121 & the Shure SM57. These microphones are each well regarded individually, with the SM57 being a staple for live use (if you gig, chances are you’ve had a sound guy pop one of these in front of your amp on more than one occasion), and the R-121 being a go to Ribbon Mic in studios for it’s natural and detailed sound. Together, they compliment each other wonderfully. Personally, I’ve always struggled to record tones that I enjoy with the SM57, hearing it on its own has always sounded a tad harsh to me. I’ve always gravitated towards the fuller tones from nice ribbon mic, but blending in the 57 adds back some punch and clarity that can get lost with the smoother top end. For the blends on this track I’ve got the 57 sitting about 30% lower than the 121, and that to me is fantastic. These tracks don’t have any extra processing, just a low pass on the royer @ 100hz. Which new Bass Amp Model is your favorite? @Fender Just released the latest firmware update for the Tone Master Pro, and this timethey’re looking after the bass players with the addition of 4 Bass Amps, a handful of cabinets and some bass effects. I put together a quick demo of the new amps and am really digging the sounds I’m getting out of it. First up is the Fender Super Bassman. This is split into two models, the Vintage Channel, which is where all your classic Fender Super Bassman tones live, and the Overdrive channel which can let you blend in an impressive amount of drive. I’m running both of these into the Bassman 1x15 Cabinet. Next we have the ‘66 Flip Top, based on the studio Classic Ampeg B-15. This one is incredible versatile and can nail a bunch of sounds, I love it here with some flatwounds and fingerpicking. It’s running through the matching 1x15 cab. And lastly, is the Rampage Blueline, based on the legendary Ampeg SVT. These style tones are typically my go to when I’m playing bass and this model does not dissapoint. It sounds fantastic cranked up and running into the matching 8x10 cabinet. The new update also features a Bass Overdrive (based on the sansamp) and a couple of bass equalizers. As well as a new bassman model for guitarists and a handful of new pedals and some other great functional upgrades. We’ll likely take a look at those soon but for now enjoy these Bass tones.
