How do you like to record your acoustic? Pop some headphones on for this one and give it a good listen. After my last look at the Universal Audio Sphere DLX, I had some people interested with how it sounded on Acoustic Guitar, so I figured that that would be the perfect excuse to setup and record my recently acquired Martin OM-28V. I’m using the Sphere DLX and their Ocean Way Mic collection which contains models of some legendary microphones from their mic locker. I’ve been pretty impressed by the mic modeling and it can be a pretty powerful tool to help find the best sound for your mix. You’re able to record and adjust the microphones after the fact as well as things like polar pattern, proximity, and mic axis. I also love the stereo mode you can hear in the later section of this video. You can treat the front and back of the microphone as separate sources and create some really unique microphone blends that sound fantastic. I think these Sphere mics are a pretty great option for someone who wants to be recording great tones in their home studio without having to sink a fortune into a microphone collection.
