Throw on some headphones for this Re-Sound Designed #myheroacademia scene I mixed in Dolby Atmos using only @sansound3 SANWEAR–GT earbuds for the entire process. The binaural version of the Atmos mix works best on headphones. This is one of my favorite fight scenes in all of anime, so it was a really fun process to redesign it! I tired to walk the balance between electricity and magic when it came to Deku’s sonic profile–ended up designing some midrangey warping sounds that I layered in with electricity and sci-fi SFX. There are a couple moments that may be a bit too busy, but over all I was happy with it. I tried a new workflow for using multi-tapped slap delays on this one. The design felt very dry initially (lacked the scale I wanted), so I was trying to find a way to add spatial depth without having it sound like it took place in a chamber or hall. It’s subtle, but I think it made a big difference. I also really pushed the LFE channel on this one, so hopefully it adds some weight to the bass imaging, while staying tight and punchy.
