Ruth Wilson was born to Ian and Nesta Wilson on January 21st 1979. She had a sister, Jennifer, born in 1982. They lived in the Surrey village, Betchworth. Nesta passed away on December 10th 1982. Ian remarried a teacher called Karen less than a year later. Although Ruth and Jennifer called Karen 'mum', they were raised to believe that their mother had passed after having a tragic accident. Ruth grew into a clever girl as the years passed. She had a small, but close group of friends. Ruth was a very active member of the local church, she sang in the choir, played the organ and enjoyed ringing the church handbells. In the October of 1995, Ruth began to believe that she had been lied to about how her mother passed. She travelled to London to see her mother's d*th certificate and told her friend Catherine about this. Ruth discovered that her mother's cause of d*th had been from hanging, not falling down the stairs as she had been told. Neither Ian or Karen were aware that Ruth had discovered this until after her disappearance. At this time, Ruth’s friend was due to move away. Ruth had asked if she could move with them. Another of Ruth's friends, Ben, said that she had tried to run away a month before her disappearance. She hid at his house. Catherine's mother recalled that Ruth was adamant that she didn't want to go home, but wasn't sure why. Friends has stated that Ruth had talked about running away before. Meanwhile, Ruth’s parents have denied claims that their daughter's life was unhappy. The Saturday before her disappearance, Ruth worked her normal shift at the music shop. After this, she took her ex-boyfriend out for a meal. He said that Ruth paid for the meal and told him that it would be 'something to remember her by'. Ruth disappeared the next day - Monday, November 27th 1995. Her parents had left for work that morning, leaving Ruth & Jennifer to get ready and catch the school bus. Ruth told Jennifer that they wouldn't be taking the bus together. Jennifer wasn't surprised by this as sixth form started later than Jennifer's secondary school, but she was surprised that Ruth had left it so late to tell her. Ruth didn't go to school that day. Later in the morning, she took a taxi into Dorking. She ordered flowers for her stepmother from a flower shop at midday. She asked that these flowers not be delivered until the following Wednesday. She spent most of the afternoon at the library. At 4pm, she took a taxi from the train station to Box Hill. She was dropped off at Hand in Hand Pub at 4:30pm. The taxi driver said that he noticed Wilson acting odd when he dropped her off - she just stood still in the rain. Some reports say that the taxi driver saw Ruth looking round for someone. This was the last confirmed sighting of Ruth. Surrey Police launched a search for Wilson that night. They used a helicopter, police dogs and thermal imaging equipment and scoured the Box Hill area. Their search produced no solid clues as to her whereabouts. On November 29th, 2 days after Wilson's disappearance, the flowers ordered by Wilson were delivered to her step-mother Karen. reports described the flowers delivered as an 'expensive bouquet' and there was no note attached them. It was reported that 3 notes were found hidden under a bush on December 1st in Box Hill. Although the contents of the notes have never been made public, the notes had farewells to her family, her best friend and a boy that she knew. There have been several possible sightings of Ruth in the years that have followed. On the first anniversary of Ruth's appearance, a person resembling her was caught on CCTV at Dorking Newsagents - two miles from where she had last been seen. The female was distressed and had requested a copy of each of the local newspapers. Ruth's parents have stated that they think this is Ruth. Ruth disappeared with only the clothes on her back and a few stereo-tapes.
