This is personal for me—not only as a lifelong musician and music educator, but as someone who grew up in the east end of Toronto and benefited deeply from music programs in the @tdsbstaff. Music education isn’t just about training professional musicians. It’s about learning one of the most powerful languages we have: a way to connect, to express, to grow. Like math, science, or language, music helps us develop as human beings. It teaches trust, discipline, and empathy while also expanding our cognitive abilities. I’m standing here in the Glen Stewart Ravine—just steps from Balmy Beach, Glen Ames, and Malvern, the three schools where I discovered music and built lifelong friendships. These programs changed my life. I’ve worked with the TDSB for years teaching music clinics and connecting with kids of all ages, and I know firsthand how vital these programs are.
