It’s almost impossible to squeeze all the stages of this rebind into 90 seconds, but I’ve done my best! This total transformation was a brief from @bbcbookworm to rebind @Josh Widdicombe’s favourite book: Sherlock Holmes 🔎 and to come up with a design that was extra personal to him (hence swapping Sherlock’s monocle for Josh’s glasses, and some other little personalised details!) I thought it would be nice to show a deeper look into the stages that went into making the leather cover, foil-blocking so the gold and black foil, marbling the endpapers, sewing the endbands (yes they match, thanks for noticing 😂), and the final gold details with heated brass hand tools! See Josh’s reaction in earlier vids 🫶 I loved this project! Not included in this vid is the digital design process showing how I designed the blocking dies - perhaps another video to come on that 😅 The swirling leafy thistles on the spine were inspired by elements I took from illustrated drop caps throughout the book!
