Literally took me 9 years to get this solo, and even then it's not as solid as the original. It's fun to try though! There's several Holy-Hat moments in the Afterlife solo. These only become apparent in their chaotic complexity once you sit down to learn them. First is the massive legato run at the end of the first section. Took me forever to work out what Gates was up to, but I finally realised that he's actually shifting position mid-run, which makes it so much easier. Second was those sweeps, which are played somewhat in free time, making it awkward to cop! The 3rd shape eluded me for ages, before I realised he does a position shift there also! Finally, the last 'blaze' section always ripped my head off (and still does) with it's intense alternate picking. I'm lazy, so instead I figured a way of using economy picking for the first shape. The second shape is all on one string, so I couldn't weasel my way out of that one! But having a rest on the previous shape puts more gas in the tank for the rapid fire alternate picking.
