About Part 2 of the Today‘s Mp3 Sound Effect
Part 2 of the Today‘s sound design breakdown! I like to think of every song as a movie — complete with a storyboard. Each section is crafted like a soundtrack to a scene. As I mentioned before, the main theme of this track is “Deep clean inside myself.” In the intro, the protagonist becomes aware of their chaotic mind. In the first drop (featured in this reel), they begin to organize those scattered thoughts. In the second drop, they’re fully immersed — enjoying the moment of clarity. Because the earlier sections are calm and emotional, I needed a strong contrast in the drop to let the main character feel free. Before the drop, I pushed the drum levels above the synths to build tension — and in the drop, I reversed that: the synths take the spotlight while the drums provide support. For the main synth, I started with “Debussy,” a default wavetable in Serum. It has a unique character even when layered with other waveforms. And distortion? A lot. Serum’s clippers, iZotope Trash, and Prisma’s sine wave folding is main thing. I crushed the sound hard to create contrast. Sure, mixing was tough… but I think it was worth it. A regular supersaw just wouldn’t have created this atmosphere. TL;DR — yeah, I just threw on a bunch of distortion 😅 But I really wanted to share how my initial concept and storyline connect with the sound design.
