Faces of Ghana Music 🇬🇭✨ Moses Kweku Oppong, widely known as Kakaiku (October 2, 1916 – 1986), was a pivotal figure in the development of Ghanaian highlife music. Born in Aboso, Western Region of Ghana, Kakaiku earned his nickname during his school days, a moniker that would later define his legendary band. In 1954, he founded Kakaiku’s Guitar Band, a group that became a cornerstone of Ghana’s highlife scene. The band was prolific, recording over 500 songs in languages including Fanti, Hausa, Ewe, Nzema, and English, released on 78, 45, and 33 rpm records. The band’s lineup included influential musicians like C.K. Mann, Kofi Sammy, and Kwasi Manu. C.K. Mann, who later became a highlife legend in his own right, joined Kakaiku’s band early in his career, honing his skills as a drummer and guitarist before forming The Carousel 7. Kofi Sammy, another key member, was part of the band’s creative core, adding to its reputation for delivering socially relevant and musically rich performances. The inclusion of such talents underscores Kakaiku’s role as a mentor and innovator in the highlife genre. Their first recording was made in 1954 with the United Africa Company, marking the beginning of a rich discography. Notable albums include Adadam Paa Nie (Vol. 1) (ca. 1973), which featured the classic highlife track “Ohia Ma Adwendwen”. Other well-known songs attributed to the band include “Agyanka Ba,” celebrated for its vibrant guitar work and cultural resonance. #Kakaiku #MosesOppon #facesofghanamusic #highlife #africaFaces Of Ghana Music 🇬🇭✨ Sound Effects Free Download.
