All of these comments are things that have been said to me over the last few months of sharing my lipedema journey. I truly believe that some of the people leaving these comments had good intentions, but it’s still important to highlight why these comments don’t consider the entire story when it comes to lipedema. Lipedema is NOT a cosmetic issue, it is a medical one. Yes, it causes a visible, disproportionate buildup of fat in the legs and/or arms, by definition. But it also causes many more issues. As a woman with Stage 1 Lipedema, some people may see my legs or arms and think, “that doesn’t look like lipedema.” But here are some of the things they’re missing, that they may not be able to see: -Chronic pain -Body dysmorphia -Fatigue -Anxiety -Fear -Depression -Embarrassment As we continue to raise awareness, let’s ensure we paint the ENTIRE picture. Lipedema has significant impacts, both physically and mentally.
