I was talking about transition paralysis this morning and how it completely messes with my brain, but particularly my already complicated relationship with 🛀 time. My brain knows I need to do it. And I love the feeling of being in the bath, it’s like a warm weighted blanket that hugs and regulates! I need a bath. I want a bath. But I just…can’t. My body won’t start the task. My brain stalls. Even something as basic as running the water feels too much. And then suddenly it’s the end of the day and I still haven’t managed it. Then add in decision fatigue, low dopamine and concentration levels and it actually becomes dangerous for me to run a bath, even if I’ve managed to engage my brain to do the task. So when it’s really bad (and having a bog standard bath run for me won’t cut it) instead of nagging and reminding me again and again, my boyfriend just… well builds me a full-on sensory rave bath. Lights. Colours. Textures. Sounds. The whole dopamine den I need. He managed to find a hack that tricked my brain into doing the thing it really didn’t want to do, and has done on several occasions this way. Do I need reminded to actually get in once it’s been run so it doesn’t go cold. Yes. Do still get stuck in there for 3 hours? Yes. Do I need reminding to wash my hair before I get out even after all that time? Yes. Was it a bit rude making it obvious I smelt and needed to wash my hair? Potentially 😂.
