About It’s the ottomans! My theme Mp3 Sound Effect
It’s the ottomans! My theme here with dynasties is I usually do the rulers from their founder to the peak of their empire. For the Mughals it was Babur to Aurangzeb, for the Safavids, Ismail to Abbas, and here it’s Osman to Suleiman. I’m gonna be taking a break from drawing, doing 10 sultans in one sitting cannot be good for my fingers 😭 you can suggest all you want but i probably won’t be doing them honestly, I usually just draw what I like The Ottoman turban, known as a sarık, was far more than just headwear—it was a deeply symbolic and practical piece of attire that signified social status, profession, rank, and even one’s level of piety within the Ottoman Empire. Unlike the simple head coverings of other cultures, the Ottoman turban was an elaborate and often massive structure made by wrapping a long length of fine muslin or silk—sometimes over 20 meters—around a base cap called a kavuk. The wrapping method, fabric quality, size, and shape of the turban were carefully regulated and could instantly convey whether the wearer was a sultan, vizier, judge, religious scholar (ulema), janissary, or merchant. For example, members of the military and religious classes had distinct turban styles that made their function immediately recognizable in public. Even within those groups, subtle differences in fold patterns and turban height conveyed hierarchy and authority. The turban also carried spiritual and hygienic connotations. In Islamic tradition, head coverings were seen as a sign of dignity and respect, especially during prayer, and the turban became a daily extension of this piety in Ottoman life. Some believed it protected the head and mind from impurities or from extremes of temperature. Certain Sufi orders, like the Mevlevis or Bektashis, had their own symbolic turbans with distinctive folds and meanings tied to mysticism, death, and the soul’s journey. With time, turbans evolved from tightly wound and conical forms in the early centuries to flatter, wider, and more decorative shapes by the 17th and 18th centuries, sometimes becoming impractically large. The turban remained a powerful symbol of Ottoman identity until the 19th century, when Western influence and modernization under reforms like the Tanzimat began replacing it with the fez—signaling a shift in political and cultural ideals. #turkey #turkish #turk #turkic #ottoman #ottomanempire #greece #greek #armenia #armenian #rome #istanbul #constantinople #egypt #culture #muslim #sunni #shia #islam #religion #christian #catholic #orthodox #protestant #war #battle #conflict #warfare #victory #art #digitalart #arttok #creativity #create #nationalistedit #country #empire #kingdom #slideshow #fypIt’s The Ottomans!
