Be kind, help people in their careers, and lift them up when you can, but expect them to ghost as soon as they don’t see you as a stepping stone anymore. 2. Play music you like, not what people want to hear. I started my DJ career playing top 100s and songs I thought the crowd wanted. I found out quickly that it meant there was nothing special about my shows, at all. As soon as I leaned into my own style and played music I actually liked, my fan base grew. People can see when you actually like the music you play, and they respond accordingly. 3. Music > transitions. No one really cares. I repeat, no one really cares. Yes, make your transitions smooth, but forget all the word play, rediculous FX, etc.. As long as the music is good and the set flows smoothly, the crowd is happy. 4. You have to make your own music. I have produced over 50 tracks, and it should be triple that. If you want to get out of your hometown, you need originals to pop off and get exposure. The only way is to produce constantly and promote with content, constantly.
