On July 23, 2019, my brother, Allain Lebreton, was killed in broad daylight while on his way to Tim Hortons. Despite video evidence and clear circumstances, the case has been closed without charges. Our family has been left devastated and searching for answers. My mother died crying over her son’s ashes, never able to see justice for him. Now I am left feeling hopeless, heartbroken, and livid that a young man’s life could be taken so publicly and yet go unanswered. There were no injuries to the person who killed my brother — and still, nothing was done. Do we, as a community, mean to accept that this is justice? What if it were your brother, your son, or your loved one? Would silence be acceptable then? I am pleading with the people of British Columbia: please stand with our family. We need help to get this case reopened, re-examined, and given the serious attention it deserves. My brother Allain deserves dignity, truth, and justice. If anyone has information, influence, or the ability to support us in pushing for accountability, I ask you from the bottom of my heart to come forward. Justice should not depend on who is lost or how convenient it is to close a file. Justice should mean that every life matters.
