Somewhere…✨ There’s a light. There’s always a light. And God is always watching over us. I first heard this song during my first year of studies, in a powerful production titled “Uke” — a third-year directing project by Raymond Motadi @MonDTheQueerSuperhero, a composer whose music reached deep into my spirit. Uke told the story of women banished from their villages, and Raymond wrote the entire soundtrack for it. Every song he composed was timeless, but this particular one stayed with me. I don’t recall its original title, but I’ve always called it “Somewhere”. Years later, that same music found its way into another chapter of my life, when the gifted Lehlohonolo Justice Makhele choreographed Lekgoba, a dance production where I was honoured to be the lead vocalist. Again, this song carried me. And now, during tech week for the 6th season of Sophiatown, I find myself singing it once more — not just as a warm-up, but as a way to return to a sacred space within me. Thank you, Raymond, for this offering. You composed more than just music — you gave us a spiritual anchor. Thank you to God for guiding this song into my life, over and over again.
