About Yoongi's "Interlude: Set Me Free," Mp3 Sound Effect
Yoongi's "Interlude: Set Me Free," from his album "D-2" (As Agust D) Yoongi is the ultimate craftsman. He's a musician who thinks about the construction of songs in a very deliberate way. He moves effortlessly between writing and producing highly polished songs created to be mega hits, and introspective, experimental, fiercely emotional songs both lyrically and musically. One of my favourite songs of all times is "Destiny" by Zero 7 featuring SiaIt's a downtempo, chill, sensual song about yearning for a person who's far away. It has an electronic beat, an elegant acoustic guitar riff, and cool synths. "In the Waiting Line," from Zero 7's album “Simple Things" where “Destiny" also appears, is the epitome of early 2000s chillout music: It's downtempo, has slightly moody chords in beautiful moog sounds, and iconic vocals by singer Sophie Barker. "Interlude: Set Me Free" has the downtempo electronic beat, the moody, spacey synths, the gentle acoustic guitar, and the female vocals that reminded me of Zero 7's chill electronica. Yoongi adds a soaring electric guitar, which brings a more intense sound that contrasts with the chill elements of the song. It's beautiful how the guitar builds but it's still in a restraint, measured way. The contrasting intensity of the music is mirrored in the lyrics: "One day, I crawl on the floor/On another day, I fly high in the sky/Why, why" The song is intimate and vulnerable, and intentionally crafted to evoke-to make us hear-those difficult, melancholic emotions.
