They’ve got cred from giving us the slick, comedic, and heartfelt Cobra Kai reboot, but can they ride the right line between nostalgia and novelty here? Here’s a quick rundown of our Knight Rider history of… well… flops: Team Knight Rider (1997–98) – (Side note, I worked on this show as a kid...I promise it wasn’t my fault it was awful.) A whole five‑car team replacing Michael Knight? FLAG goes from “one man” to “five people and a lot more CGI.” Ran just one season, 22 episodes. Knight Rider 2000 (1991 TV movie) – Michael Knight returns in a future‑set sci‑fi story. KITT becomes the red “Knight 4000.” Despite decent ratings, the new series didn’t materialize. Knight Rider 2010 (1994 TV movie) – Picture a Mad‑Max style wasteland: Jake McQueen in a Mustang, AI‑girl named Hannah trapped in his car, fighting a dystopian video‑game‑obsessed evil corp. A wild departure from the crime‑fighting buddy‑car formula. Knight Rider (2008 TV movie + 2008–09 series) – Mike Traceur (Michael Knight Jr.) and a brand‑new KITT. Darker, more serious, and with Val Kilmer voicing KITT. Came as a backdoor pilot in 2008, led to a one‑season series before being promptly canceled . So, yeah, Knight Rider has probably had more flops than hits. And sure, the Cobra Kai team did great with the Karate Kid legacy, but beyond that first season’s wink-wink tone, let’s be honest: most of that show wasn’t exactly Emmy gold either.
