About Lucid Life / Marama Ora is Mp3 Sound Effect
Lucid Life / Marama Ora is a design research project by Christopher Bellamy, created in collaboration with cultural educator Tekoui ‘Jérémie’ Tamari and other local artisans in Mo’orea, French Polynesia. At the centre of the project is a living material made from bioluminescent algae, which emits light in response to movement and touch. One of the key pieces — a swimsuit that glows underwater — was developed through shared conversations around night-time spearfishing, cultural memory, and the rhythms of the sea. The project explores how living organisms, Indigenous knowledge, and biotechnology can come together to propose new forms of making — based on care, reciprocity, and co-creation.
