“Etude in G minor” by Leslie Adams. This piece begins with a very simple tune that is repeated a couple of times throughout the piece. The embellishment of the thematic material is done in such a way that the melody never sounds overly stated. Quite frankly I believe this piece sounds more like a ballad or even a nocturne than an Etude. But if I may play the devils advocate I’d say that the only true “Etude-like” material that I’ve encountered would be working on voicing and having a sensitive touch; which is not necessarily a quality that is solely found in etudes.
