Guess who’s back, back again Great crested grebe / Skäggdopping I went to visit ”The mayor’s isle” in Norrtälje the other day when I saw that this great crested grebe couple was back in the exact same place again. This is the third year in a row and I’m so excited for them. The location of their nest is very open and looks like it shouldn’t be very good but they have successfully raised their chicks every year so it must be better than it looks. I think it’s very fascinating that so many things are happening around us and most of us just miss it because we aren’t really looking. Hundreds of people walk by this nest every day and I’m sure that most people don’t even see it even though it’s right in front of their noses. It was the same for me before I picked up wildlife photography. You start viewing the world in a different way. I think that most of us were more aware of the little things when we were little ourselves, but we lose our sense of wonder and curiosity the older we get. The best way to get that back is to spend time with small humans. They will see the things that you miss yourself. That’s a good thing for me because I’m still very childish at heart. We should all grow up but that doesn’t mean that we have to lose our childishness.
