I rushed to the Den, as I usually do from work on Fridays, to get to the open mic just in time to sign up for the “maybe” zone (which is generally the area I am content in playing nowadays). As I was talking with some friends I noticed #8 was crossed out. I put my name at that spot. It made me really reflect the last time I had played that high up in the order. #8 stood out to me for a reason but I really couldn’t place a particular day. As I went to order my “usual” coffee, I decided to get the elote Mac n cheese, which was the first meal I ever had at the Den at the very first night I ever played at the open mic. As I was biting into my Mac n cheese and drinking my coffee, I realized what was familiar about the #8. Exactly this Friday of the month of May a year ago, it was my first night to ever do an open mic. It was my first night ever playing at the Den. I played “Angela” by the Lumineers and my original song “you’ll never know” that night. In the moment of nostalgia tonight, I decided that I needed to play those same songs again, so I did. These two videos are from the first open mic (bright eyed, bushy-tailed, wearing semi decent casual clothes) and tonight (a Ballast Point brewing hoodie, clean scrub pants because I didn’t have jeans or long pants in my car, and a pair of tennis shoes). Nothing was glamorous about tonight at first glance. And to be truly honest, nothing was “glamorous” about this year at first glance either. I’ve been burning the candles at both ends working towards a variety of dreams - whether that be work, school, or music. Tonight I savored the nostalgia. I stopped and “smelled the roses” and reflected on where I was a year ago vs. now. If you asked me a year ago, never would I ever have thought that I would write as many songs (in my lifetime, EVER), never would I have ever played shows at venues in Los Angeles, never would I ever have had a callback audition to the Voice (and sing Angela by the Lumineers as my first song choice, ironically), and you get the point… I’m thankful God gave me this reminder today to savor exactly where I’m at. 🤍 #acoustic #nostalgia #nostalgic 🥹I Rushed To The Den, Sound Effects Free Download.
