TROPICAL DEPRESSION “JACINTO” MAINTAINS ITS STRENGTH OVER THE WEST PHILIPPINE SEA. Location of Center (4:00 PM): The center of Tropical Depression JACINTO was estimated based on all available data at 470 km West of Iba, Zambales (15.4°N, 115.6°E). Intensity: Maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa Present Movement: North northwestward at 10 km/h Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds: Strong winds extend outwards up to 340 km from the center TROPICAL CYCLONE WIND SIGNALS (TCWS) IN EFFECT No Wind Signal currently hoisted. OTHER HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS Heavy Rainfall Outlook Refer to Weather Advisory issued No. 18 at 5:00 PM today for the heavy rainfall outlook due to Southwest Monsoon enhanced by JACINTO. Severe Winds The Southwest Monsoon slightly enhanced by JACINTO will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds): • Today and Tomorrow (29 August): Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, and Camiguin. • Saturday (30 August): Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Zambales, Lubang Island, Romblon, and Palawan. HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS 24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook No Gale Warning hoisted at this time. Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters: • Up to 3.5 m: The northern and western seaboards of Calamian Islands; the western seaboard of northern mainland Palawan. • Up to 3.0 m: The western seaboard of mainland central and southern Palawan • Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels. Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters: • Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Zambales, and Cagayancillo; the western seaboards of Pangasinan, Bataan, Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro. • Up to 2.0 m: The northern seaboard of mainland Cagayan; the remaining seaboards of Ilocos Region and Palawan; the seaboard of Antique and Zamboanga del Norte; the southern seaboard of Iloilo; the western seaboard of Guimaras; the southern seaboard of Negros Occidental; the western and southern seaboards of Negros Oriental. • Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions. TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK • Tropical Depression JACINTO will move northwestward in the next 12 hours and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight. Afterwards, it will turn more west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea towards northern or central Vietnam, where it is likely to make landfall on Saturday (30 August) afternoon or evening. • JACINTO is forecast to slowly consolidate and may reach tropical storm category tomorrow (29 August) evening. Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
