It wasn’t until now that I really questioned and understood what the immigration process was like for them. It was a long and hard process. They worked, fought for the US, took care of their families, and served their communities before and after they got their status. Me personally, I never in my life looked at someone and questioned “are you here illegally?” especially my grandparents. The US is built by immigrants!! I have watched families being separated, children alone in court rooms, people taken regardless of status, workplaces and schools being raided, and peaceful protesters being disgustingly mistreated. This is not just a political issue, this is a humanity issue. No one should fear they’re going to be taken away when at school or work. No one should fear going back to visit their country because they might not be allowed to come back. No one should fear if their family members are going to come home that night. To the hispanic community, I see you and I stand with you. To my Asian community, please understand that this is happening to us too and we need to protect one another, also be empathetic to other communities as well. To all immigrants, you belong here.
