my memory is generally foggy at best but this was one of the experiences I had as a kid that I remember vividly - flying on a plane, bringing all the things I thought were important to have when going to the other side of the country (an American Girl magazine, a Hello Kitty Walkman, the soundtrack to Barbie in The Princess and the Pauper, the cast recording to Little Women, and a china doll which broke at the airport) in my pink roller suitcase with a cartoon poodle on it. in this trip which seemed short to my parents, I recall learning all sorts of things - that berry juice can look like blood if you get it on your leg, that a mile is a long way to walk, that making sandwiches for a lot of people at once means you shouldn’t lick the peanut butter knife. my brothers don’t remember this trip (they were younger than me, I was 7) but I remember the matching Buzz Lightyear jackets they wore.
