Process for building out 78 video ads for @miketyson šŸ”„ Just like building a cake šŸŽ‚ you build in layers. Step 1: Cut down the VSL in #premiere. Quite often, when a client gives us their assets, we don’t always have a lot to work with. So we’ve learned to take VSL’s and turn them into ads. Using a VSL also creates congruency between the ad and the landing page. We took a 6 minute VSL, transcribed it, highlighted the best soundbites, and cut it down to ~ :60 seconds. Always listening for things like pains, desires, authority, results, new opportunity, value perception, objections, social proof. Cut out the messaging that doesn’t support these psychological marketing ingredients. Step 2: Layer in the music. Different points in the ad have to convey a different emotion. Just like movie trailers, it has lows and highs. It has to build up, feel dramatic, create intrigue, suspense, etc. Change the music often, it keeps them engaged and increases watch times. This ad has 4 different songs. Step 3: Layer in the sound effects. There’s over 60 sound effects happening throughout. They are strategically placed to enhance a specific moment in the ad. A percussive hit, a rising cymbal, a whoosh, a riser, etc. Without sound effects, this type of ad would fall flat. Step 4: Design, animate and add the graphics. We’ll create what we like to call ā€œMusic Bridge Titlesā€ where each time the song changes, we put up some sort of statement. Usually a pain, a desire, result, authoritative flex, or objection based statement. We do this with #aftereffects and make sure it’s on-brand with the same colors, logos, fonts, and feel as the landing page. Step 5: Layer in the b-roll. We’ll add the best visuals we can find that complement and matches what the narrative is saying. Step 6: Add transitions This step is optional, but this has become our signature for all of our fast paced ads. It adds movement for the viewer and helps to keep them engaged. Step 7: Watch it 10 more times.
