File under: what it’s like This time last night I was rolling the rented beach cruiser into my tent campsite after an evening out on Tybee Island. Last night, I’d met up with a friend for dinner at North Beach Bar & Grill then biked around a bit before catching last call at Back River Brewery where Rachael the bar tender and I swapped stories about budget-traveling in South East Asia. The past two days, mind you, all part of my Tybee Island staycation adventure for a column in a certain local newspaper. Tonight, though, I had to leave the Neverland of Tybee and venture back to Savannah where I hit up Tuesday night open mic and performed with all the usual suspects at The Warehouse Bar and Grille. It was a blast— I came early and stayed to the end. Thank you, Brett and Co for managing all the madness. Afterwards, I headed to The Original Pinkie Masters where I’m more than comfortable reading a book and having a beer. The couple next to me recognized my playing at the Warehouse, and the woman called me an icon for both my music and for reading by myself at the bar. 🥰🥰🥰 And I happily—braggingly!—claim that. My performance was solid, and books are cool. But the crowning glory was the pumped up, long haired bartender leading patrons singing David Bowie’s, “Heroes” at Pinkie’s.
