He was originally hit by a car, you can see the marks on the top of his shell from the collision, and brought to @swamp_girl for rehabilitation. Before he was able to be released back into the wild, Kim did genetic testing on him and discovered that he was NOT a snapping turtle that was native to Florida! His genetic testing showed that he was actually from Louisiana, which means that he is either an escaped or released pet, and obviously cannot be released back into Florida. We also cannot legally bring him to Louisiana to release him, so he will have a great home here with us. We do have native AST’s in North Florida but not this species. We are so excited to have him join the sanctuary!
