@disney @disneyplus It’s unfair that there is a lack of representation of POC with dark skin in movies and TV shows. This lack of representation is a result of systemic racism and discrimination that has existed for centuries. It’s essential for people to address this issue and strive for more diversity and inclusivity in the entertainment industry. The current representation of POC in media is often limited to stereotypical roles or token characters. These characters are rarely given enough screen time or developed well enough to be the main protagonists of the story. This lack of representation sends a message to viewers that only certain races and skin tones are worthy of being represented in the media. It perpetuates harmful stereotypes and biases that exist in society. Representation of POC in media should not be limited to just light-skinned individuals. There needs to be more representation of people with dark skin tones in the media, as they have historically been marginalized and underrepresented. By showcasing a diverse range of skin tones and cultures, we can combat colorism and promote inclusivity. That means that there needs to be roles created for POC, not just being casted as characters that arent meant for POC,(e.g. Rachel Zegler as Snow White) but rightfully representing POC and darker toned POC when those limited roles are presented. (e.g. Nani from the live action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch) We must continue to advocate for more diversity and inclusivity in the entertainment industry to ensure that all individuals feel represented and valued. By providing representation for all, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society.
