A Michigan man is accused of killing his ex-wife at the hospital where she worked, just weeks after she sought court protection from him. According to the Detroit Free Press and ABC News, 53-year-old Mario Green was arrested by the Detroit Police Department on Saturday, Aug. 23 — nearly a full day after authorities say he shot and killed his ex-wife, Latricia Green, inside Henry Ford Hospital. Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison told the outlets that Mario entered the hospital’s basement shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, where Latricia was working. The two got into a heated argument, during which Mario allegedly pulled out a gun and shot her several times before escaping. The hospital was briefly placed on lockdown. Security footage later showed him leaving the facility around 9:55 a.m. and driving off in a 2011 white Dodge Charger, the Free Press reported. Police later found the car abandoned, and by 3 a.m. on Aug. 23, officers confirmed that Mario was in custody. In a statement to ABC News, Henry Ford Hospital said: “We are devastated by the loss of our Henry Ford Hospital teammate and our hearts go out to her loved ones — her family, friends, and the people she worked with every day. We are providing resources to our team members who are dealing with the impacts of this tragic incident. The safety and well-being of our patients, visitors and team members is our greatest priority.” Local outlets WXYZ and FOX 2 reported that Latricia had twice tried to secure a personal protection order (PPO) against her ex-husband, whom she divorced in 2018. The first attempt was denied. A second order was approved on July 21 — but was never delivered to Mario. When Latricia filed her first request on June 13, she wrote that Mario “continued to call my job and threaten to meet employees outside” and had “showed up to my job and tried to enter my office without my approval to get to me,” according to WXYZ. A judge denied that petition. She applied again on July 20, writing that his behavior had worsened. “Since I was denied, he has now been able to break into my car and cut up my clothes, shoes and steal belongings from me, and he followed me on multiple occasions and has tried to break my car window,” she said. In her statement, she also described feeling abandoned by the system: “My father was murdered, and now with this situation I am in mental distress and scared not knowing what to do.” Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald later explained to WXYZ that the order had never been served. In Wayne County, PPOs can be delivered through a process server, a court officer, a third party, or certified mail. “Unfortunately, [the PPO] was not served on her ex-husband,” Fitzgerald said. “So it almost brings us here today.” Friends and family say Latricia repeatedly voiced fears about her ex-husband.
