bettina von zwhel - the flood, at the ashmolean museum, oxford the german born, london based photographer’s works in this exhibition were inspired by the origins of the ashmolean museum, and a careful study of the contents of the museum archives. the museum’s first objects were acquired by patron elias ashmole from the personal collection of the intinerant father and son pair, john tradescant the older and john tradescant the younger. they had accumulated a varied collection of unusual objects from around the world, enabled by their careers as botanists and gardeners. prior to their acquisition by ashmole, the objects were kept in a house known as ‘the ark’ in lambeth, south london. the ark’s objects were first shown to the public in the first museum in england, the ‘museaum tradescantianum’. the title of the exhibition, ‘the flood’ is a nod to the tradescants’ ‘ark’. von zwehl’s photographic collages feature butterfly wings and eyebrows arranged to mimic the alien geometries of marine microorganisms, stacking different scales of life on top of one another in a fittingly ark-like fashion. von zwhel continues the tradescant tradition by featuring both ‘naturalia’ - natural objects, and ‘artificialia’ - manmade objects. ashmole’s study of alchemy is referenced with mushrooms coated in gold leaf. #fyp #photographytok #artphotography #museum #museumtok #bettinavonzwehl #ashmolean #ashmoleanmuseum #oxfordBettina Von Zwhel The Sound Effects Free Download.
