As of July 2025, the current Chief of the Air Staff is Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar What Does It Mean to Be Chief of the Air Staff? To be the CAS is to be: 1). The top commander of all Nigerian Air Force operations. 2). The visionary responsible for strategy, modernization, and overall force structure. 3). A symbol of discipline and excellence, especially for young cadets and officers. 4). A bridge between the Nigerian Air Force and other branches of the Armed Forces, especially in joint operations and national security matters. Fun Fact: Why It Mattered to Snap Him at POP (Passing Out Parade) The POP at AFMS is not just any parade, it is a tradition that transforms young boys into Junior Air Men. And the presence of the Chief of the Air Staff at such an event? It adds immense weight and honor. For me, as an ExJAM (Ex-Junior Air Man), capturing the CAS in that moment was a full circle experience, from marching on that same ground to documenting the leader of the skies standing on it.
