"Ninkasi" is an adaptation of a hymn dedicated to goddess Ninkasi, recounting the stages in the brewing process. The text is written in Sumerian, a language spoken at least 4900 years ago (2900 BC) in Mesopotamia. It was also one of the first script to appear. This song is based on a 11:4 polyrythm on frame drum loop, with throat singing. I humbly try to pronounce it to the best I can, with several months of studying phonology and phonetic of Sumerian. Why feathers ? It's symbolize the aerial realm, therefore the aerial part of the body which is the spirit/mind/consciousness. Through metonimy the higher spirit. Why facepainting ? It's a shield. To protect myself from the world, to give me strengh. It can also symbolize masks that people use socially. Why white ? To symbolize unity (as white light contains all colors), authenticity. Why skulls ? To symbolize the mineral part of the body. It's also remind us that we are perishable. It also honnor the life of the animal to which is belong, giving it new purpose (here are female deer (doe?) and badger. Why candles ? To symbolize the solemn, the ritual, the ceremonial. It also bring fire, which symbolise power, heat, immateriallity, ascension and much more. Why throatsinging ? Because it's raw sound from the body, the inner instrument. It cast a vibration for the ritual/offering. This song is part of an EP/triptyh which is my humble offering to the higher mind, consciousness, spirit, seing, architect... call it as you wish. I borrow dead languages (and their text) with humillity and revive them for the time of a song, again as an humble offering. My EP "H₁yaǵnós" is available on all streaming platforms and on donation on bandcamp. Translation: Brought into the world by water, tenderly cared for by Ninḫursaĝa! After founding your city on wax, she completed her great walls for you. Your father is Enki, Lord Nudimmud, and your mother is Ninti, queen of Abzu.
