About Whitchurchsilkmill Sound Effects

After hand twisting the warp into the loom, the silk threads are then smoothed down with a brush to ensure every end is tidy and ready to be tied on. Weaving is a sensory experience in many ways and we love being able to share this with you! 🧵 #weaving #warp #brush #asmr #silkthread #weaversoftiktok #whitchurchsilkmill #heritage
We’re weaving a piece of history. Commissioned by Philip De Paola Tailoring, Whitchurch Silk Mill is weaving silk that will be used to create a replica of George Washington’s suit from 1789. This suit will be made by De Paola and then displayed at the Morristown National Historical Park in New Jersey, alongside the original suit. This project celebrates the United States’ 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. We’re looking forward to sharing more about this project with you - stay tuned for more! 🧵 #whitchurchsilkmill #weaving #winding #weaversoftiktok #weavers #silk #georgewashington #declarationofindependence #american #history #collaboration #silksuit

Introducing… ‘The Final Strike’ 🎖️ Designed by @London Metropolitan University student Lucina Carlos and woven here at Whitchurch Silk Mill, ‘The Final Strike’ will be released later this year to mark 210 years since the Mill was built. Inspired by the Battle of Waterloo and our iconic Waterloo clock, this limited edition silk scarf was designed with funding from our ‘Weaving Futures’ National Lottery Heritage Resilience project. It’s been a pleasure to work with London Met students, and we’ve welcomed their diverse skills and creativity. Stay tuned - this scarf will be available in Autumn 2025. 🧵 #whitchurchsilkmill #waterloo #weaving #silkscarf #silk #weaver #battleofwaterloo #scarf #limitededition #collaboration #london #hampshire #unitedkingdom

Finds and flowers...please check my IG - @myordinarytreasure for the details and updates on my river finds.  Exploring the beautiful shallow streams of the famous river Test at @Whitchurch Silk Mill . Built in 1813, this working mill and museum continues to weave sumptuous silks, and is currently showcasing a fabulous collection of ribbons commemorating the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth. Jane was born just a stone's throw upstream, close to the river's source in Steventon. A must see for any Jane Austen fan. Finds from the mill streams build a picture of the people who worked the mill, but also the wider context of this location on the Test, the focus of human activity spanning millennia. Everything from a tiny neolithic flint blade (currently being recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme) through to the more recent finds, including original mill loom weights, Georgian toys and Victorian bottles... The 'gin clear' spring fed water produces exceptional weed growth and right now daisy-like ranunculus flowers reach up to carpet the surface, like a watery lawn. I feel extremely lucky to be invited to explore here, and am excited to return after the first weed cut, next month... ps. Antique bottle friends, please don't come at me about my use of a porcelain stopper with a milk glass hair bottle ;) #riverfinds #mudlarking #treasurehunting #england #janeausten #hampshire #relaxing
