The magnificent young Norwegian tubist August Schieldrop performs the central theme of the first movement of my tuba concerto "Amaia." During this passage, integrated into the first movement called "Gaztelugatxe," the protagonist of the story (Amaia) learns to master the first of the elements: water. Thanks to the wisdom of the Druid at the Fishermen's Hermitage, this young woman acquires the ability to tame the waters, and thus begins an adventure that will unfold in the second and third movements. "Portas" is a very special composition with a strong sentimental component, as it is dedicated to the memory of "Daniel Portas," a trombonist and musician who was very beloved and respected in Spain, particularly in his homeland of Galicia and his hometown of Meaño, who passed away a few months ago.
