About Retropute7400 Sound Effects

I do remember this one from the arcade. I remember seeing it. I remember hearing it. That voice yelling “Indy!” and the screaming kids—it sticks with you. But weirdly, I don’t remember playing it much. Maybe I did try it and just got wrecked early on. It’s hard. Not unfair, just classically quarter-hungry in that 1985 way. Coming back to it now, I kind of like it. It grew on me. Once you figure out the weird jump timing and the whole mine cart rhythm, it starts to click. It’s got that early Atari arcade jank to it, but it’s also got something most games didn’t have back then: vibes. And a big part of that is the sound. The audio samples in this game are legit—they’re from the movie, or at least close enough to feel like it. That little burst of theme music when you swing across lava? That’s the good stuff. The movie it’s based on—Temple of Doom—was always kind of the oddball in the trilogy. Not as loved as Raiders, not as polished as Last Crusade. Of course, now we’ve got the crystal skull one… and another one I think I didn’t even see. So maybe Temple of Doom has moved up the rankings by default. Anyway, this arcade game does a decent job capturing the chaos of the movie. You’re rescuing kids, punching guards, dodging traps, swinging on ropes—it’s all here. It’s a little clunky, but also kind of ambitious. There are different stages, vertical scrolling, cart sequences, boss fights. It tries to be more than just a platformer, and that earns it points in my book. Fun fact: This game was developed by Atari Games in 1985 and ran on the same hardware as Gauntlet. It was one of the first arcade games to use digitized speech and featured actual Harrison Ford voice clips—pretty rare for the time. The whip mechanic was also a big deal, giving you a ranged melee attack that was basically your all-purpose problem solver. Listening to music, the 2000s way. Before streaming services became popular, it was already typical to listen to music on a computer, but the source was either MP3s (bought on online stores or ripped from CDs) or directly from CDs. Main players were Windows Media Player (in the video), Winamp (that allowed the most personalization) and iTunes, if you were lucky enough to have an iPod (although Windows compatibility came later). All the players featured graphical effects, that synced somehow with the played music to create a more immersive experience. Audio in the video is produced by the powerful JBL-branded speakers built into the PC. #music #sound #graphics #effects #multimedia #mediaplayer #windows #windowsxp #windowsmediaplayer #davidbyrne #likehumansdo #audio #pc #vintage #vintagepc #vintagecomputer #retro #retropc #retrocomputer #old #oldpc #oldcomputer #jbl
