Drawers ✅ Shaker doors + drawer fronts ✅ Primer and paint on all the pieces ✅! We’re going for a clean, modern look for these built-ins using my fav crisp white paint! From where we left off last time in the Part 2 recap, I made some good progress this past 1.5 weeks! I’m so glad to be done with priming and painting of everything (well about 95% done). This means I’m getting close to install day! 🔔 Here’s a TUTORIAL on how to joint edges on solid boards WITHOUT a jointer! 🙌🏼 This is one of absolute favorite tricks to know and is super useful for anyone who doesn’t own a jointer but wants a solid and seamless glue up! I ran my boards through a table saw, but if you don’t have one, you can also use a track saw or circular saw and get similar results! 👍🏼 I’m using my favorite double sided woodworking tape from @xfastenbrand ! It’s so sticky, holds SO good, and doesn’t leave any residue behind once removed! Did you find this trick helpful? I made the drawers for the bench part of the built-ins and wanted to share again how to measure and cut for them to fit Blum undermount slides. Blum undermount slides are my absolute favorite drawer slides and although they are a bit pricier, they are SO worth it for the quality you get. My next big project has begun! I’m building a window bench/bookshelves built-in unit. It frames a beautiful bay window and I’m so excited about it! To start off it off, I cut down 6 sheets of plywood and got the bench and cabinet carcasses completed in 4 days. Cutting down all the plywood took me longer than expected, but doesn’t every part of a project seem to take longer than expected? IYKYK. 🫠 Now that the bench and cabinet boxes are built, next up are making all the face frames for the cabinets and bench and assembling the two bookshelves! INSTALLATION of the built-ins has commenced! I can’t tell you how excited I am to be at this step of installing the built-ins! It’s really taking shape now that the cabinets and bench are fully secured to the studs. SO much had to happen under + behind the cabinets and bench the past 2 days to get to this point (which is everything you see in this video). What’s next to install and get done? ✍🏼 1. Cabinet counters and trim pieces, 2. Both bookshelves, 3. Upper trim pieces of the bookshelves, 4. The cabinet doors and drawer fronts, 5. Hardware, 6. Picture lights. Lastly, can’t forget about all the finishing touches like wood filler to the nail holes, caulking, and touch up paint. I think I’ll be able to get this all done and show you the final reveal sometime next week, so stay tuned! Old post explained! I don’t necessarily want to glue cabinets right to a wall, but I did want to use and adhesive along with screwing into the steel studs. So the cleat allows for that, and I can hang my cabinets off of that.
The past couple days, I focused on getting the face frames and bookshelves completed for these built-ins! The simple trim I just added on the exposed sides of the bookshelves might be my favorite thing about these built-ins so far. It’s all in the details as I always say. 😉 Next up, I’ll be making the 3 drawer boxes for the bench and all the shaker doors and drawer fronts!
