Did this Turtle just slap a Manta ray? 😂 Perhaps a very last minute evasive manoeuvre by this turtle or maybe just a dramatic way to say, “Move it, Manta.” Either way, it’s a moment we are glad that was caught on camera by IG @katie.benzz The Reef: never a dull moment. 📍 @Heron Island #wildlife #turtle #funnyanimals #fyp #mantaray #greatbarrierreef

TAIL SAILING!! This large Humpback whale is just casually bobbing around upside down, showing off a rarely seen behaviour. Intelligent, enormous, and beautiful, Humpback whales still do many things we simply don’t understand – and probably never will. One of the most curious is this: Tail Sailing! And it’s exactly what it sounds like, a Humpback whale sticking its fluke out of the water and just kind of… floating there for a while. It’s not filmed often as it doesn’t happen often, but it looks like it would take some serious practice and balance to pull off! The reason behind this behaviour is still unclear, but it’s mostly observed in female whales with calves (which this one has). One theory suggests it may be a way to keep cool in warmer water, just like when you’re too hot under a blanket and stick a foot out. Another theory is that it could help with nursing, as the position aligns the mother’s mammary glands perfectly for the calf to feed. Or perhaps it’s simply a way for them to get some much-needed rest. Whatever the reason, it’s an incredible thing to witness. This footage was filmed by Master Reef Guide and Owner Operator Adam and Skipper Kalvin onboard @Aquascene Magnetic Island #whale #wildlife #greatbarrierreef #australia #fyp
