A handful of corporations exercise significant influence over the food supply chain, from the types of seeds a farmer plants to the products that end up on store shelves. These corporations are also backed by powerful lobbyist groups that work behind the scenes to shape policies and regulations in favor of these large agribusiness, often at the expense of smaller, local options that might offer more diversity and benefit local economies. You should never feel guilty for purchasing food at the grocery store, but we must understand how consolidation and further consolidation of America’s food supply chain will affect us and our future. If you have the financial means, consider sourcing your food from small, local, or direct-to-consumer farms. By doing so, you’re laying the foundation for a diverse agricultural economy that also supports small-scale producers. In turn, you’re helping to create a system that will ensure we continue to have diverse food choices for the future & a robust food supply chain.
Fall remix of four things I wish people knew about U.S. Beef Beef is sustainable - When managed responsibly ruminants maintain our grasslands by improving soil health and aiding in the preservation of wildlife habitat. Our grasslands play an important part in our ecosystem and they sequester carbon in their forage and soil. Beef is healthy - The protein found in beef contains all the amino acids required by humans. It is know as complete protein and is essential for muscle and tissue health. Beef comes from families - 98% of US farms are family owned and operated. Beef nourishes our nation - Beef not only nourishes our nations people but it nourishes our nation’s land. #americanagriculture #sustainableagriculture #usbeef #pasturetoplate #beefcattle #americanranches
That means that out of 10,000 farms today, only 12 would make it to the fourth generation. Why do you think this numbers are so low? As the third generation to take over my family’s farm, I can see why these numbers are low. With each generation, the risk of the land being divided and distributed among family members increases. Smaller parcels often become too small to sustain independent operations, and family members may choose to sell their portion for quick cash instead. Even when farms are passed down intact, they can often be in a precarious financial position, struggling to adapt to a changing economy making foreclosure and fire sales common. These numbers are real, and we need to recognize that this kind of loss comes at a cost—a cost that will eventually affect us all. Hi there, we are Lily Hill Farm, a family-owned & operated cattle farm located in West Central, Georgia. In addition to selling our beef locally, we are also able to ship to all 48 states in the contiguous US. We believe that quality beef starts here in our the pastures, which is why we are dedicated not only to the health of our cattle but also to our land. Healthy Soil → Healthy Grass → Healthy Cattle → Healthy Beef While we do not run a strictly grass-fed & grass-finished operation, our cattle do remain on pasture their entire lives and are supplemented with a grain ration designed to complement their intake of natural forage. #beefcattle #pasturetoplate #farmtotable #dryagedbeef #pastureraised

How to help: 1. You can vote with your dollars and buy your beef directly from the ranches, like ours, that sell our beef direct. 2. You as an individual, can speak to your federal representative and request that big beef’s purchasing practices are investigated through FTC Act (Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914). This will help cattle producers that are currently unable to sell their beef directly to the consumer.
