A clip of Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy singing “Will You Go, Lassie, Go?” (Wild Mountain Thyme) from the fourth episode of their 1977 TV show produced for New Hampshire Public Television. This Irish folk song is typically credited to Francis McPeake and was originally recorded by his nephew (also Francis McPeake) in 1957 for the BBC show “I Roved Out.” McPeake adapted the lyrics and melody of the Scottish song “The Braes of Balquhither" by Scottish poet Robert Tannahill and Scottish composer Robert Archibald Smith for his version, which was dedicated to his first wife. The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem recorded “Will You Go, Lassie, Go?” in 1962. The song has become the final song performed at The Scattering, Milwaukee Irish Fest’s final performance featuring many (if not most) of the musicians appearing at the festival each year. #irishmusic #ireland🇨🇮 #irishamerican #folkmusic #song #musichistory
