It has been described as the band's heaviest album. Six of the nine songs were written by the band, while the other three were reinterpretations of Chicago blues songs by Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf. One single released outside of the UK (the band would release no UK singles during their career) and peaked as a top-ten single in over a dozen markets around the world. ✨️Artwork✨️ The album sleeve design was from a poster by David Juniper, who was simply told by the band to come up with an interesting idea. Juniper was a fellow student of Page's at Sutton Art College in Surrey. Juniper's design was based on a photograph of the Jagdstaffel 11 Division of the German Air Force during World War I the Flying Circus led by the Red Baron. Juniper replaced four of the flyers' heads with photos of the band members, added facial hair and sunglasses to some of the flyers' faces or replaced some with the faces of other people. The blonde-haired woman French actress Delphine Seyrig in her role as Marie-Madeleine in the film Mr. Freedom by William Klein. The cover also pictured the outline of a Zeppelin on a brown background which gave the album its nickname "Brown Bomber" ✨️The Lemon Song✨️ 1964 song by American blues singer-songwriter and guitarist Howlin' Wolf. Called " one of the defining classics of Chicago electric blues" Zeppelin performed "K Floor" live 1968 '69 it became the basis for "The Lemon Song", which they recorded in Los Angeles when the band were on their second concert tour of North America. In some early performances Plant introduced the song as "K Floor"; an early UK pressing of Led Zeppelin II showed the title as "K Floor" and was credited to Chester Burnett (Howlin' Wolf's real name) For the second and third North American tours the song evolved into "The Lemon Song" with Plant often improvising lyrics onstage (opening lyrics to both songs are identical). Other lyrics, notably "squeeze (mi lemon) till the ¿uice runs down my 🦵 can be traced to Robert Johnson's "Travelling Riverside Blues" It is likely that Johnson borrowed this himself, from a song recorded earlier in the same year (1937) called "She Squeezed My Lemon" (by Arthur McKay) The song also references Albert King's "Cross-Cut Saw" "The Lemon Song" was performed live on Zeppelin's first three concert tours of the US (on the first tour as "K Floor") before being dropped from their live set late 1969 #ledzeppelin #gettheledout #onthisdayinmusic #BehindTheSong #ifonlyfor59seconds
