I might have listened to this song for so long I think it’s over a year now, reason - it took time for me to really feel the song, to do justice to it and enact all the possible emotions forward. There was a time in my life I used to dance a lot on bhajan songs, and it was easier, and I used to love dancing on bhajans on Devi (Goddess), especially Goddess Durga. And this song is about a Devi too. It’s not a bhajan but a beautiful song describing Devi and her unique combination of rage, love, kindness. I have always felt that stories of Devi are all about women and the tremendous amount of strength and range of emotions that women have. It’s but unfortunate that women are so so underrated, being raised in a world that forces a girl from childhood to believe that they need a Prince Charming to rescue her, like she needs rescuing, it’s so unfair and untrue. When you look at all the mythological stories, it’s the Devi who comes to rescue everyone from the demons when the Trimurthis (Lords Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) made the mistakes of giving ungodly boons to the asuras (every time) and Devi’s have to clear up their mess and kill the Asuras (demons). It’s my interpretation of mythological stories, I grew up believing that but at some point I forgot about it. It takes ages for the women to start realizing the fake stories of the patriarchial society and start unleashing the true inner powers that lie deep down inside her. I dedicate this to all women who need a reminder, that YOU r the supreme power, you can do anything that your mind decides to. Make good use of that power and empower yourself. Embrace your inner powers of womanhood. Yes there is so much ranting on this post, but I had so much to convey from so many months of thoughts accumulated and my interpretation of this song.
