What’s going on???? #fingertwitch
So why do those of us with Parkinson’s need dopamine and what do the meds do for us? Symptoms are different for all of us with Parkinson’s so I can only speak from my own experience. This little twitch in my left hand was one of the weird things that first took me to the Dr (along with other muscle spasms and cramps around my body). Parkinson’s starts on one side and gradually moves to both sides of the body. I am someone who has symptoms on both sides now. On my right side it’s predominantly rigidity, soreness and slow movement. I have almost zero arm swing and I drag my leg. On the left I get a minor tremor in my hand and what we call dystonia and dystonic tremors. Medication sorts this stuff out - well about 90% of stuff gets fixed. Then the meds wear off. To this day one of the first signs is that my left hand starts getting a tiny twitch and my right hand starts to get a bit slow, stiff and sore. Then my rib cage starts to feel sore as the intercostal muscles start to lock up and my ankles and knees start to hurt and get all clicky. So why does that happen? It’s the lack of dopamine. As the dopamine resource the medication gives me runs out, the signals via my nervous system to my muscles that dopamine carries (it’s a neuro transmitter as well as the reward buzz hormone) start to get disrupted. If I don’t take a pill then I start to slow right down as if I’m in a slow motion film clip and get all sorts of aches, pains, cramps and so on. I slowly grind to a painful halt. That’s what the meds do for us… I’m grateful for every pill - and I take quite a few now of three different types). Those of us with PD are experiencing the death of our dopamine neurons. It’s progressive, degenerative and incurable (at the moment). I’m sharing this for Parkinson’s awareness month not for sympathy. Sometimes we walk weird, freeze on the spot, experience face masking that makes us look angry and stumble about. Sometimes people think we’re drunk. We also battle non motor symptoms like insomnia, anxiety, extreme numbing apathy and so on. I’m however full of joy and gratitude which has been my prayer from day 1. #parkinsons #parkinsonsawareness

"Fasciculations occur when innervation from the peripheral nervous system to the muscle is not working correctly and a muscle is triggered involuntarily, causing it to twitch," #mnd #mndwarrior #mndawareness #alsawareness #motornueronedisease #motorneuronedisease💙🧡🤍
These are my hands when they are weak and tired and swollen. many things are not visual but this trembling/twitching is common for me when my body has had it for the day. So glad it is Friday. #musclepain #musclepainrelief #jointpain #chronicpain #symptoms #fibromyalgia #fibroflare #twitches #twitching #tendons #pain
