“Don’t send me no doctor..” ... “Dr. Feelgood’ was nothing more than a 12-bar blues. But the lyrics! And her piano playing! It’s like something my mama’s mama listened to - one of those original ladies, like Bessie Smith or Ma Rainey.” - Luther Vandross #ArethaFranklin #FavoriteArethaSong
FRIENDS AND LIARS - Audioslave performs “I Am The Highway” LIVE in 2003. Chris Cornell was undoubtedly one of the most talented and versatile frontmen in the history of rock. The possessor of a remarkable, multi-octave vocal range, his singular abilities played a key role in setting Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog apart from their rivals. His visceral performances on supercharged anthems built his reputation as a distinguished heavy rock vocalist, but he also displayed a subtlety and sensitivity rare within the hard rock and metal fraternity. This dexterity also allowed him to excel when tackling material as disparate and challenging as the moody, atmospheric “Fell On Black Days” and the acid-fried psychedelia of the band’s signature hit “Black Hole Sun.” Cornell’s untimely death has been the subject of controversy and conspiracy. At the Detroit MGM Grand Hotel in the early hours of May 18, 2017, a bodyguard found Cornell in the bathroom of his hotel room, unconscious. The night before, he performed a gig at the Fox Theater. The bodyguard reported that a resistance exercise band was around Cornell’s neck and there was blood in his mouth. He was pronounced dead on the scene by a doctor at 1:30 a.m. Police were questioned by The Detroit News about why it took 41 minutes for medical professionals to get to Cornell but the police said the gaps in time and response were not as big. But in the wake of that night, others have investigated the tapes and call logs and determined that, in fact, the police were late. This has led some, including his wife Vicky, to think that foul play is afoot. RIP Chris Cornell: (7/20/1964-5/18|2017) bio credit @lordrarerock #audioslave #chriscornell #IAmTheHighway
Keeping the month of OCTOBER alive with all things spooky and #witchywoman What is the meaning of witchy woman by the Eagles? The inspiration for the title and lyrics about a seductive enchantress came from a number of women, although Henley had one particular woman in mind – Zelda Fitzgerald, whose biography he was reading while writing the song. #donhenley #GlenFrey #BernieLeadon #RandyMeisner #Eagles #witchywoman #witchywomen

Steve Marriott (30 January 1947 - 20 April 1991) was an English actor, musician, guitarist, singer and songwriter. Few musicians make it to the top. Steve Marriott hit the big time twice. He may well have been small in stature but his cheeky personality, colossal voice, awe-inspiring guitar playing and ability to write great songs made him a Mod icon. Remembered for roles as the frontman of the Small Faces and Humble Pie, it was only after his untimely death that he was enrolled into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Marriott taught himself to play instruments given to him by his father. Often described as ‘musically gifted’, Marriott got his first taste of show businesses at the tender age of 13. Decca Records released his first solo single “Give Her My Regards” in 1963, but it failed to chart. He suffered a similar let-down as frontman for The Moments, a band which accrued a decent following and supported the likes of The Animals and Georgie Fame. Undeterred, Marriott went on to play in one more band, The Checkpoints, before meeting his date with fate and becoming a founding member of the Small Faces. Chance encounters with Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones led to firm friendships and the formation of the band. Marriott passed up an opportunity to pair with David Bowie, becoming a real ‘face’ (a popular and liked Mod) instead. The band, which included keyboardist Jimmy Winston, were signed in just over a month and charted with their very first single, “Whatcha Gonna Do About It. The rest, as they say, is history. Marriott put his stamp on every song written by the band and, in later years, said his favourite was “All or Nothing.” He formed Humble Pie shortly afterwards. The impressive line-up, which included Peter Frampton, Greg Ridley and Jerry Shirley, went on to become one of the world’s first ever supergroups. The final years Marriott turned his back on fame and reportedly lucrative recording contracts to tour the pub and club scene with a number of small bands. He died in a house fire, allegedly started by a cigarette, in 1991. Listed by Mojo as one of the greatest singers of all time. #london #english #singer #guitarist #blues #rock #british #music
