Ficus Elastica ‘Shivereana’ Moonshine I got this plant last year when it was still a hard to find plant and the price was insane compared to what it is now, but I don’t regret buying it for a second! It’s grown so much in one year! Care Info↓↓↓ ☀️ LIGHT: in the summer it sits out on my SE facing deck & gets full sun for most of the day! In the winter & fall I supplement with a grow light. These are sun loving plants! They can and prefer full sun (when acclimated) so make sure you’re giving it as much light as possible! When given a lot of light the leaves will be an orange color when they unfurl and slowly turn to a deeper green over time 🌡️TEMP & HUMIDITY: since I live in an area where the weather gets VERY cold in winter and fall I bring it inside. They prefer temps above 65°F but are pretty hardy and if the temp drops below 50°F they can tolerate it for a night or two as long at the temps are below freezing. 💧WATER & FERTILIZER: I water mine when the soil is completely dry or at least almost completely dry. They’re prone to overwatering so be careful not to water too frequently! Make sure to pay attention to the soil! They’re also heavy feeders!! Make sure to fertilize! I fertilize every time I water and mine is absolutely thriving and growing like a weed! 🪴SOIL: use a well draining chunky soil! This will help prevent overwatering as well. I use my DIY chunky mix. I’ve heard that this particular ficus is sensitive to being moved, however in my experience they’re not as sensitive to being moved or new environment s as other ficus. As long as it’s getting enough light it’s fine. They do take time to acclimate to their new environment so it might take some time before you see some new growth if you do end up moving it. Do you have this plant? Like I said it was once pretty rare, but recently they’ve been popping up for under $30! Long story short, the key to getting your ficus to branch- chopping it. I tried to give notching a chance. I really wanted it to work, but after MONTHS, there really wasn’t anything happening. A few new growth points had formed, but they wnsws to just staying dormant and not growing. Within a week of chopping it, all of the growth points began to develop (there were about 4) and grow new leaves and even more growth point began to form - 𝙏𝙀𝙉 𝙉𝙀𝙒 𝘽𝙍𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙃𝙀𝙎!! My ficus Tineke looks 𝘏𝘖𝘙𝘙𝘐𝘉𝘓𝘌 right now, not gonna lie 😬. it’s bare and I’m having some burn/ potential fungal issues, but luckily with 10 new branches, it should fill out nicely and grow into a beautiful full and bushy tree. Once I brought it inside for the fall, i was worried it wouldn’t continue to grow as well as it was outside, bur ive been keeping it under my Rousseau grow light and I’ve actually seen the most growth since it’s been inside!
