About Falsifiability1 Sound Effects

Falsifiability is a key concept in science and critical thinking, which is why it’s the first rule in the FLOATER toolkit. Essentially, if we want to determine if a claims is true we must ask it it’s possible to think of evidence that would disprove it. It's 7 rules--- Falsifiability, Logic, Objectivity, Alternative explanations, Tentative conclusions, Evidence, and Reproducibility---are based in critical thinking and scientific reasoning. Whether you're an educator searching for a structured method to protect your students from misinformation, or you're simply overwhelmed by claims and don't know how to determine what's true, this toolkit can help you stay afloat in a sea of misinformation. Fatma Said, Marianne Crebassa Jacques Offenbach - Les contes d'Hoffman, Act 4: Barcarolle - "Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour" "Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour" ("Beautiful Night, Oh Night of Love" in French, often referred to as the "Barcarolle") is a piece from The Tales of Hoffmann (1881), Jacques Offenbach's final opera. A duet for soprano and mezzo-soprano, it is considered the most famous barcarolle ever written and described in the Grove Book of Operas as "one of the world's most popular melodies." The text, concerning the beauty of the night and of love, is by Jules Barbier. The Barcarolle does not originate in The Tales of Hoffmann; it was written in 1864 for Offenbach's Die Rheinnixen, where it is sung as "Komm' zu uns" by the chorus of elves in the third act. In Hoffmann, it appeared in the version of 1881; although the third act was cut at the premiere, the location of the second act (Antonia) was changed from Munich to Venice in order to retain the duet, which was sung by offstage chorus and soloists rather than characters. #classical #opera #barcarolle #orchestra #offenbach #singing #performance
Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings Detroit Symphony Orchestra Leonard Slatkin, conductor June 6, 2017 Barber's Adagio for Strings originated as the second movement of his String Quartet, Op. 11, composed in 1936. At the suggestion of conductor Arturo Toscanini, Barber arranged it for string orchestra, leading to its premiere by the NBC Symphony Orchestra on November 5, 1938. The piece quickly became emblematic of national mourning, performed at the funerals of Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, and following the September 11 attacks in 2001. The inspiration behind the Adagio is believed to stem from a passage in Virgil's Georgics, describing a wave's ascent and crash—a metaphor for the music's emotional swell and release. Barber's partner, Gian Carlo Menotti, recounted this literary influence, highlighting the piece's deep emotional resonance. Behind the Music Utah Symphony Leonard Slatkin, renowned for his interpretations of Barber's work, has conducted the Adagio on multiple significant occasions, including a tribute following the September 11 attacks. His insight into the piece emphasizes its structure: beginning with a solitary melodic line that builds to a powerful climax, followed by a profound silence, and concluding with two chords that evoke a sense of finality and peace. This performance by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra stands as a testament to the enduring power of Barber's composition—a piece that continues to move audiences with its profound expression of sorrow and solace. #samuelbarber #adagioforstrings #detroitsymphonyorchestra #leonardslatkin #classicalmusic #emotionalresonance #liveperformance
