From the very first time I heard Cinquemani – On The Way, I was hooked. It instantly transported me to one of my favourite musical spaces—the golden era of mid-tempo funk and R&B that blossomed in the late ’80s and early ’90s. This track oozes the unmistakable influence of legendary production duos and groups like Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, especially in their iconic work with The S.O.S. Band. It echoes the sensual groove of “The Finest”, the magnetic pull of Midnight Star’s “Curious”, and the emotional finesse of Klymaxx’s “I Miss You”. You can even hear whispers of The Controllers’ “Stay” and Michel’le’s “Should Have Been You” throughout. That kind of sound—lush synths, hypnotic basslines, velvet vocals, and perfectly timed snares—is a pure delice, and Cinquemani absolutely nails it. That said, I couldn’t resist giving this modern gem a DJ-friendly twist. The original version is short and sweet, but I’ve extended the structure to better suit a club or mix context. I also gave the drums a fatter, punchier edge to make them shine on bigger systems, and added a bridge section to let the track breathe and build in all the right places. This edit is a love letter to that golden age of groove—a time when every track felt like a midnight drive, a neon-lit dancefloor, or a slow jam on a boombox in the park.
