About Definitely_dylan Sound Effects

On 13 November, 2002 at Madison Square Garden in NYC, Bob Dylan surprised the crowd with an impromptu cover of the Beatles song “Something”. By that point it had been nearly a year since the passing of George Harrison, and preparations were under way for the big all-star tribute “Concert for George,” which was to take place on 29th of November at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Bob Dylan apparently couldn’t make it, so he instead took the opportunity to pay homage to his old friend by singing his song in concert, because, as Dylan explains in his introduction, “we were such good buddies”. Their connection dates back to the 60s, when George pursued a friendship with Bob while the latter was laying low in Woodstock. On a visit over Thanksgiving they hung out and even wrote some music together, including “I’d Have You Anytime”, which appeared on George’s first solo album All Things Must Pass. In 1970, George went to visit Bob mere weeks after the Beatles announced their breakup. Soon after, George coaxed Bob out on stage during one of the first ever large-scale benefit concerts, Concert for Bangladesh. And of course, in the late 80s, they finally became band mates as part of everyone’s favourite dad rock outfit, The Traveling Wilburys. What is your favourite moment of their friendship? #bobdylan #georgeharrison #thebeatles #travelingwilburys
A rare solo acoustic performance from Bob Dylan at the George Gershwin Gala on 11 March 1987, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the composer’s passing. You can tell by the heartfelt delivery and his smiles how much Bob loves this song. “Soon” was composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by his younger brother and frequent collaborator Ira. It originally appeared in the 1930 revision of the musical Strike Up the Band, and was later recorded by any greats including Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, and Sammy David Jr. I’m so sorry, I had to cut a gorgeous harmonica solo at the beginning, but I urge you to find the full performance on YouTube. #bobdylan
There’s clearly no shortage of female Bob Dylan fans, yet the discussion of his music has been dominated by men. Let’s change that. @rebecca 🤠
