About Citrusandcedar Sound Effects

Super chatty raven this morning. 🐦‍⬛ They are my favorite wildlife that we have here, and sometimes they make the STRANGEST noises. They'll gurgle like water, howl like coyotes, make a really deep low noise like a rock falling in a deep pool. #Ravens #raven #wildlifesounds #ravensounds #birdtok
Hack for helping rabbits cool down when it's hot! Lots of fresh water, and these bunny ice packs boxes. It was 94 degrees this day, which is too hot for me, and way too hot for Mars and Mayo. #farmlife #farmhack #raisingrabbits #heatwave #pnwsummer

Can I eat these blue berries? 🔵 Not to be confused with blueberries! I’ll be honest, for a while there I was a stickler about calling this tree “Juniper” and not “Cedar”, but these days, you’ll often find me calling it “Eastern Red Cedar”, it’s just what people around me know it as and I’m a believer that language is meant to communicate. And they're also lumped together because of their very similar aroma. There are a ton of cool uses for juniper “berries”, again I call them berries because that’s what they people will know them as, but if we want to get super technical, they’re really a “galbulus”, or a fleshy seed cone. But who they heck knows what a “galbulus” is??? That’s why I call hickory milk, “hickory milk” even though I am well aware that true milk (it’s funny even to use the term true milk lol) comes from mammals. What do you want me to call it? Hickory liquid extract??? That doesn't communicate at all what hickory milk really is. But if I say "hickory milk" you immediately get a pretty decent picture of what I'm talking about. Sorry, that was a tangent, and hickory milk has been on my mind lately. (Did you see my new half hour long hickory milk treatise? I put a lot of work into that one!) Anyway, back to juniper- While there is no direct evidence of this happening in humans, it has been observed some evergreen species like juniper or pine, when consumed in excess having Abortifacient effects in cattle. I think this is where the myth comes from that there are “toxic” pine or juniper species. It is only safe to say that juniper or pine should likely not be consumed if you are pregnant. And I wouldn’t recommend consuming it in excess just like you shouldn’t have nutmeg in excess. (Which is very difficult to do unintentionally) That’s all for this one! #easternredcedar #foraging #juniper
